Biography

Lehlin Thai is a British-born Singaporean soprano currently based in Essex, United Kingdom. She is received the James and Mary Glass Award whilst studying at the Royal Northern College of Music. Lehlin is currently under the tutelage of Mary Plazas and has coached with Jonathan Fisher, Sheldon Miller and Robin Humphreys. She has completed her Bachelor of Music (with Honours), Master of Music in Performance and Postgraduate Advanced Studies in Musical Performance at the Royal Northern College of Music. She was also under the tutelage of Deborah Rees. Prior to college, Lehlin studied with Jeong Ae Ree in Singapore.

Recently, Lehlin performed the role of the Blue Fairy in Dove’s Adventures of Pinocchio (RNCM Excerpts);  Adele in Strauss’ Die Fledermaus (LYO); Ruth Putnam in Ward’s The Crucible and covered the role of Zerlina in Mozart’s Don Giovanni (BOA Opernfest). Some of performance highlights include the Daegu-Singapore Young Artist Concert at the Daegu Opera House in Korea, and operatic highlights (full productions / scenes) include the role of Ninetta in Mozart’s La Finta Semplice, and premiered as Customer 1 in Flasse’s Out to Lunch and Vic in Matthews’s What Happened to Anne? for two of MCYO’s operas; Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro, Zerlina in Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Despina in Mozart’s Così fan tutte, Drusilla in Monterverd’s L’incoronazione di Poppea, Venus in Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld, Echo in Strauss’ Ariadne auf Naxos, Myrtle in Kurt Weill’s Street Scene, Flora in Britten’s Turn of the Screw, Moth in Britten’s A Midsummer Night's Dream, Ida in Strauss’ Die Fledermaus and 2nd Woman in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas.

Lehlin performs frequently in operas, recitals, concerts and corporate functions across the United Kingdom, Singapore, Korea and Germany.

Aside from performing, Lehlin has also completed her PGCE in Music with Specialist Instrumental Teaching with the RNCM and MMU on the International Postgraduate Country Scholarship Award. She enjoys sharing her knowledge and passion for music and singing practise with others, and teaches singing students of various ages and backgrounds, and music from GCSE to A levels.
